Greetings Worshipful Masters,
It is that time of the year again. The Prince Hall Freemasons and Eastern Star Charitable Foundation (PHFESCF) Jurisdictional Scholarship Program is underway. We are looking to continue the tradition of the Jurisdictional Scholarship Program that started in 1957 with supporting our mission of giving charitably to our metropolitan area awarding scholarships to deserving high school graduates and college students. We are looking forward to your participation and support of this year’s Jurisdictional Scholarship Program that will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 in the Prince Hall Center for Performing Arts Ballroom at the Masonic Temple.
The Jurisdictional Scholarship Team is comprised of three (3) scholarship committees, the MWPHGL Committee; the Georgianna Thomas Grand Chapter (GTGC) Committee, and the PHFESCF Committee. Together, the combined committees meet to plan the annual joint Jurisdictional scholarship process and program; review, evaluate and score student applications; conduct in-person interviews; plan and execute the scholarship information session; and plan and coordinate the annual scholarship program event. The Chairpersons of the three (3) Committees are: MWPHGL – WSGD Alvin F. Smith, Jr., GTGC – PM Glaceria Mason and PM Twanna Nickens; and PHFESCF – WGEA William ‘Jay’ Jones and PM Robin Wise.
The Jurisdictional Scholarship application process is managed by the PHFESCF. Application packages have been distributed to each Lodge as well as distributed to DC area high schools. Application packages may also be obtained from the PHFESCF Office. Student scholarship application packages are to be submitted to the PHFESCF office on the 3rd floor of the Masonic Temple. Student scholarship application packages received by the PHFESCF Office are turned over to the PHFESCF Scholarship Chairs. It is also necessary for you or your lodge liaison to contact the MWPHGL Committee Chairman to ensure your lodge student awardee and payment receipt information is properly recorded.
Please see attached the Jurisdictional Scholarship Application Package and Scholarship Award Receipt Record. These attached documents contain important information for you and your Lodge Liaison (usually the Senior Warden of your lodge) on the scholarship process for fraternal year 2018.
